Welcome to Nature's Year

The United Nations declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. The world is invited to take action in 2010 to safeguard the variety of life on earth: biodiversity. Nature's Year is celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity.

About 20 organisations and governmental agencies are collaborating on Nature's Year. The aim is to highlight biodiversity, nature conservation and the multitude of organisations engaged in protecting the environment. We want to encourage as many people as possible to join us and participate in the activities planned during 2010.

The symbol we have chosen for Nature's Year is a butterfly, representing the beauty and fragility of our natural environment. In the butterfly's wings you can see trees and people, a reminder of the importance of how people interact with nature.

During the past century we have accomplished a lot to protect our nature, but there is still much more to be done. The work to conserve our nature and ecological biodiversity must continue - for ourselves and for future generations. We must learn to enjoy and use our natural environment in a sustainable way.
 
We believe that the individual’s experience is key in creating knowledge, understanding and engagement. That is why our ambition is to get more people out and experiencing our nature with their own senses.
